Carotid artery disease
Narrowing of the carotid arteries can reduce blood flow to the brain and is an important cause of stroke. In selected patients, carotid angioplasty and stenting provides an endovascular alternative to open surgery.
What the procedure involves
A catheter is guided to the narrowed carotid artery under imaging. The narrowing is treated with angioplasty and a stent, with cerebral protection used where appropriate.
